Shaphat Outreach hosts DOVE Vigils, a program aimed at providing a safe and supportive space for the community to grieve and respond to acts of violence. DOVE stands for Dreaming Of Violence-Free Everywhere, and our vigils are held in response to any incident resulting in the loss of a community member. These gatherings are meant to affirm our commitment to non-violence and offer a space for community members to express their sorrow and support. DOVE Vigils are typically held at Faith on 54th street or New Birth Kingdom Covenant Church, and last for approximately 30 minutes. Upon arriving, attendees are given a program and a candle, and are welcome to stay for community conversation and support afterwards. In addition to leading vigils, DOVE also engages in advocacy work through education, offers support groups, and hosts activities aimed at finding solutions to violence in our community.
